This Joy Ride

September 15, 2008

Go one and all over to http://thisjoyride.wordpress.com/, Sheri & Shari’s new baby!  …. because it is necessary to affirm what is still beautiful and right in the world. Children watching for sneaker waves (hand held tight), autumn light on trees, split figs. They will be featuring a new poet, photographer, artist, creative folk every few weeks, to keep our spirits up, to keep reminding.

When Air Traffic Ceased

                       Sept. 11, 2001

We come to the field at twilight,

our horizon a black, leafy frame.

The sky expands effortlessly.

Stars begin, one by one, to testify,

like our held breath,

like never before.

It’s a bit down the road, but I’ll be reading with Sid Miller (editor of Burnside Review and author of many poetry collections), Matthew Dickman (All American Poem, Copper Canyon Press, 2008), and Michael Dickman (The End of the West, Copper Canyon Press, 2009) at Beyond Vernacular, a Portland reading series, Sunday, October 19 at 8:30, 116 NE Russel in Portland. $3 donation. Visit www.beyondvernacular.org for more details.

This is an exciting group and I am proud to join them…. hope you can join us, too!
